Abendmusiken College 2026
»Concerti«
Under the motto "Concerti", a Baroque orchestra modeled on a court ensemble of the early eighteenth century will be formed at the Kolleg in 2026. At its center stands the musical competition between individual instruments and groups of instruments — one of the defining elements of "Baroque" concerto culture.
The working phase follows the principles of historically informed performance practice, in which artistic and scholarly work are closely intertwined. During an intensive working week, participants will collaboratively prepare a final concert that is both musically developed and critically reflected from a scholarly perspective.

Lecturers
At the Abendmusikenkolleg, music students work on baroque chamber music as an ensemble, and science students develop the framework in which this music can be performed. A team of internationally renowned lecturers takes the time to incorporate their thoughts and ideas and respond to each individual question. Personal advice, workshops and stage coaching are also on the programme! The college reserves the right to invite further lecturers.

Program und Registration
With music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann Melchior Molter, as well as participants’ own proposed repertoire, a concert program will be developed from 28 October to 1 November. All Baroque instruments are welcome to take part. Under the motto “Concerti,” the focus lies on the musical competition between instruments and groups of instruments within a court ensemble of the early eighteenth century.
During the course days, young students from around the world will have the opportunity to network in the fields of classical music, musicology, and journalism, to work together on the future of historically informed performance practice, and to initiate and discuss collaborative projects that help bridge artistic and scholarly perspectives on music and cultural history. To strengthen a vibrant future for early music, the rehearsals will be complemented by discussion sessions and seminarsaddressing current developments in the classical music scene. After this intensive study week, both participants and audiences should leave enriched by the exchange of ideas, the music-making, and the shared social experience.

Music
Students of (Baroque) music who are enrolled at a university or a music-focused secondary school (including pre-college programs) as of 1 November 2026 are invited to apply.
Within the ensemble, the individual program items for the final concert will be prepared independently, discussed in compact lessons, and analyzed in lectures and seminars.
A workshop on individual career strategy will offer participants the opportunity to reflect on their professional paths while also discussing the future of European Baroque music.
CfP: Would you like to lead a seminar or speak personally with one of the professors? Send us your project proposal!

Research
Students of cultural studies, musicology, and music journalism may also apply to participate in the Kolleg, provided they are enrolled at a university on 1 November 2026 or were enrolled on 14 April 2026.
They will independently lead seminars, prepare a program booklet text and a concert introduction, and will have the opportunity to take part in a personal conversation about their career strategy.
The press release for the concert, developed collaboratively by the participants, will be published in national media outlets and newspapers.

Concert
At the final concert on 1 November 2026, the results of the working week will be presented as part of the 10th Remchingen Evening Music. Numerous guests are expected, including representatives from politics, the press, and the church.
After the concert, each participant will receive a certificate issued by the teaching staff as well as a written commentary on their work.
A lunch concert with a limited audience is planned for the day before. The program will consist of solo contributions by the individual participants.

Location
The courses take place in the Paul-Gerhardt-Haus, the Kreuzkirche, the New Town Hall and the Old Church.
Lunch and dinner will be provided, accommodation for participants will be organised by the College.

Remchingen
Music can unfold perfectly in many spaces, but nowhere can it be as surprising and versatile as away from the hustle and bustle.
In Remchingen there is the opportunity to find peace and quiet without being cut off from the outside world and to work on a project with complete concentration. The Remchingen Evening Music Festival is also the ideal platform to present the results.
